In 2012 OBERMEYER won the first prize in the international competition of general planning for the Red Island Economic Area and the Surrounding Region in Qingdao.

Qingdao City is one of China’s most developed cities.The site is located in the centre of Jiaozhou Bay with an area of 670 km2 and also at the middle axis of the great Qingdao area. The Red Island economic zone is planned as the centre and radiates the inland towns, thus integrates Red Island and the surrounding area. The goal is to build a technical, ecological and human scale new city and to release the development stress of the old city.
