OBERMEYER Works - Wanshan Lake Ecological Science and Technology City

Wanshan Lake Ecological Science and Technology City is the future core of the eastern region of Wuxi

Background

Wanshan Lake Ecological Science and Technology City is the future core of the eastern region of Wuxi, as well as an innovative landmark in the future. OBERMEYER design team ingeniously integrates technology and innovation with the unique ecological characteristics of the existing wetlands, unfolding a distinctive design concept, " A Vertical Habitat, the Future Wanshan". In this vibrant and promising city, technology and environment harmoniously blend together, creating stunning landscapes and liveable environments that are truly awe-inspiring.

A Vertical Habitat, the Future Wanshan

OBERMEYER Concept

The application of the integrated vertical design concept merges the city and architecture into a unified entity with consideration for the overall development of the city. The vertical growth of the city begins from the underground and the natural water-habitat-integration into the future urban network. Secondly, through the linkage of underground spaces with the upper green park and pedestrian transition areas, it creates convenient, efficient, and vibrant pedestals, effectively enhancing the surface space.

Spatial Structure

On the ground, the Blue and the Green landscape axes gather at the Smart Port, connecting three major functional areas to form a central hub with dual axes. This creates a holistic spatial structure. The clever stacking and staggered arrangement of architectural blocks, along with the connections of the elevated corridors, create a three-dimensional and diverse experience of vitality. The sunken plaza and terrace courtyard blend with the internal landscape, allowing the landscape to naturally extend in the vertical direction. High-rise towers stand in this three-dimensional integrated landscape public space, adding a sense of tranquility and comfort compared to the bustling ground space.

Central Core, Dual Axes, Three Areas

This vertical design concept enables the close connection of different levels of the city, forming a perfect spatial organization. The layout of underground transportation and commercial facilities provides convenience and connectivity, rescuing people from busy surface traffic and creating more openness and diversity for the ground space. Vertical ecological design not only considers the development needs of the city but also emphasizes the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature.

Wanshan Lake Ecological Science and Technology City by OBERMEYER explores a new mode of sustainable urban development, maximizing the optimization of urban space and creating a modern metropolis that combines functionality and aesthetics.
