OBERMEYER teamed up with Guangdong Architectural Design & Research Institute and Guangzhou Urban Planning & Design Survey Research Institute joined the International Competition of Guangzhou Airport New Town Underground Space Planning and Design. The innovation and foresight embodied in the concept won the votes of Juries and the consortium thus was selected to be one of the most excellent design teams.

On 11^th of January, 2022, the Jury meeting was hold in Guangzhou Urban Planning Exhibition Centre. After a heated discussion, 3 teams were picked up as juries’ final decision to be the winners. Among those, there is the concept design ‘U celebrate, U enjoy’ from OBERMEYER consortium.

‘U celebrate, U enjoy’ consist of ‘one spine and six zones’ to connect the U-shape new town. It provides a mix-use place where people can enjoy the park, the shopping mall, cultural facilities, entertainments, and exhibitions. The design highlights the POD mode and TOD mode to enhance the connection and accessibility of the Airport New Town. It forms an area where the above ground and the underground are integrated with a green spine stretching to the east and west, a core with green valley and several courtyards with different themes.

This vital competition was held by the Guangzhou Aerotropolis Development District Administration and organized by Guangzhou Urban Planning and Design Co., Ltd., it aims to seek international and pioneering design for further development of Guangzhou Airport New Town. According to the host, there are over 46 companies forming up 19 consortiums from all over the world entered this competition once it was published, after series of qualification check and verification, 8 teams are chosen to be on the shortlist for the competition.
