NAX Congress: Megacities Innovative Planning
OBERMEYER followed the invitation from the Federal Chamber of German Architects [BAK] and took part in their congress on "Innovative Urban and Environmental Planning for Megacities in China" as part of their initiative "Network for Architecture Exchange" [NAX] in Beijing. Before joining the panel discussion under the topic "Green City and the Quality of Life", Stephan Jentsch, General Manager of OBERMEYER China, was asked for a speech on traffic. Under the topic "Megacities: How to get there?" he explained, on the basis of Beijing as example, OBERMEYER's inherent approach of comprehensive planning and the inseparability and interdependency of traffic planning and urban planning. In China, the current conventional planning practice leads to problems on different scales and to a questionable prioritization of automobiles. As a result, he pointed out OBERMEYER's ideas and approaches to solve this problem by inventing structures which promote walkability, speed-up slow traffic and use the space in an efficient and equal way.
